It had been brought from the United States coastguard cutter North Wind, the curator of the Wellington Zoo (Mr R. J. Culler) carrying it in his hand on the journey. The bird is a rock-hopper penguin, one of two which the zoo is getting from Mr J. E. Ferkins, biologist of Admiral Byrd's ..expedition, who is acting lor the Washington Zoo. The other penguin will be taken today to the zoo, from which two black swans will be taken to the ship to go to Washington in exchange. Another two penguins are going to the Auckland Zoo.
