Admirel Byrd Here On Friday

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Rear-Admiral R. E. Byrd will arrive in Wellington on Friday. The com mander of the central group of the the United States Antarctic expedition will be accompanied by the commander of the task force (Rear-Ad-miral R. H. Cruzen).

They will pay formal calls and be entertained at luncheon by the United States Naval Attache, Commander Morgan Slayton. and attend the Trentham races on Saturday. A reception given by the United States Minister to New Zealand (Mr Alva M. Warren) at Featherston on Sunday in their honour will be attended by Government, Services and diplomatic representatives. It is hoped that Rear-Admiral Byrd will be the guest at a combined reception on Wednesday of the New Zealand Antarctic Society, the English Speaking Unioij, the United Nations Organisation, and the British-Ameri-can Cooperation Movement. He is expected to lunch on Thursday with the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) and to attend a civic reception in Wellington on Friday. State Orchestra

(Special) WELLINGTON, This Day. After several months of practice, the National Symphony Orchestra will give its first public performance tonight in the Wellington Town Hall under the conductorship of Mr Andersen Tyrer. The orchestra consists of 65 musicians.
