Rebuilding Of House Of Commons

(Spec. 11 a.m.) LONDON, Mar. 5. Work on the rebuilding of the House of Commons will commence next week and is expected to occupy two or three years. The cost will be in the vicinity of I £1,000.000 and between 200 and 300 j men will be employed. i On the advice of the Ministry of j Works Clilsham stone, from Rutlandshire, will be used instead of Anston stone which was used for the old building. Extensive tests have shown that Rutlandshire stone is much less susceptible to the effects of smoke and acid which have necessitated extensive repairs to Westminster buildings in the past. All timber work will be done in English oak. Reconstruction of the foundations of Ihe destroyed House of Commons chamber is now completed, and the contractors are ready to commence work- on the building proper.
