'Cheaper To Graze Stock, Pay Fines'

(P.A.) ROTORUA. This Day. I “The public finds it cheaper to graze stock and pay fines,'’ said Mr P. A. Kusabs (Rotorua) in moving a remit at the Municipal Conference yesterday that the second and third schedules of the Impounding Act, 1908, be amended by increasing the charges authorised for trespass, driving, impounding and sustenance of stock, and that the maximum penalty provided for in Section 17 of the act be substantially increased. The president of the Counties' As- ' sociaiton (Mr W. G. Belton) was invited to give his views. He said this subject had been before the Counties’ Conference for years. Disease had been brought to stock on farms through contact over fences. The motion was agreed to.

Kemp (Masterton). Mr H. Caro (Hamilton) said that the weakness of the act was that the vendor and not the supplier was prosecuted. A member of the Milk Council (Mr M. E.
