Move To Cater For Whangarei Traffic

Proposals designed to improve the traffic position in Whangarei were submitted to the Whangarei Borough Council last night by the traffic and transport committee. The committee reported that it had asked the chairman (Cr J. L. McCulloch) and Cr M. W. Porter to investigate the possibility of having the stopping place of some buses altered during the peak period to relieve traffic congestion in Bank Street between the Water Street and Cameron Street intersections. It recommended that the by-law should be amended to provide for 60minute parking in certain streets instead of the present 20-minute limit. It had also asked the chairman and Cr L. R. Hegley to investigate the use of certain properties in the business area to provide parking bays and to report on what measures should be taken tc relieve or prevent congestion of traffic in the business area. The recommendation was adopted.
