Pullman Runs Backwards Qn Curve
(12.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 28. A Pullman sleeper carriage became uncoupled on the N<§w York-Texas “Sunshine Special” this morning. The automatic air brakes failed and the car ran backwards for three and a half miles down a sharp mountain curve, jumped the track and came to a stop against an embankment. A porter was killed and 11 passengers were injured. The accident occurred at the exact spot near Altoona, Pennsylvania, where the Red Arrow was derailed on February 18.
