Cool Strike May Be Averted
(Rec. 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The miners’ leaders say that two developments r yesterday may avert a general coal strike. I These developments were: (1) A decision o’f the Joint Coal Board chairman (Mr K. Cameron) to move to combat the “dust” menace on the south coast and other coalfields. (2) The promise of the chairman of the coal industrial tribunal (Mr F. H. Gallagher) to visit the coalfields next week to confer on miners’ claims for improved working conditions. Miners’ leaders refused to indicate whether they would recommend a general coal strike to aggregate meetings of miners.
