Takapuna Cup May Suit Baimocara
RACING
The Auckland Racing Club’s midsummer meeting will open at Ellerslie tomorrow, and the good fields engaged will assure interesting competition.
The Takapuna Cup, It miles, is the principal event on the day’s programme, for which nine horses will face the starter. Te Hinemoa, top weight with 8.12, is conceding 131 b to Balmacara, second on the list with 7.13. Leigh Hark. 7.11, was a winner at Te Aroha last Saturday over 11 furlongs, and Bedivere finished strongly in third place at his last start. These four may fill the places. Unlucky in the running of the Nathan Memorial Handicap at Ellerslie on January 2, Balmacara came with a great burst of speed to finish fourth, half a length behind the winner. He is considered to be nearing his best form, and the Takapuna Cup may give him a chance to prove it. The open sprint may see the speedy Flowerburn making it three on end. while the two-year-olds’ event should find Pelias doing better than his third at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.
