'Anglo-Egyptian Talks Fail'

(Rec. 11 a.m.) CAIRO, Jan. 23. The Anglo-Egyptian negotiations have failed and the Egyptian Government no longer entertains the slightest hope that the parties will arrive at any agreement, stated a prominent Egyptian official. He added: “Our recourse to the United Nations is now inevitable.

“The 1936 treaty has died a natural death. Every" Egyptian regards it as null and void.”

Mr Bevin had a long talk tonight with the Egyptian Ambassador, their second meeting in two days. This, says The Times diplomatic correspondent. is evidence that negotiations have not broken down.

The partners to the 1936 treaty are maintaining contact in London and Cairo and the British have by no means given up hone of agreement.
