New Outburst Of Riots In Bombay
(Rec. 1. jb.m.) BOMBAY, Jan. 23. A Government communique states that police opened fire. Idling two and wounding 14 in the Hindu areas of Central Bombay today A dusk-to-dawn curfew has been im-r posed for a week. The Government announced that the police used tear gas and fired 59 rounds to stop looting, stone-throwing and arson during the riots.
The rioters stabbed five persons and injured three by throwing acid, and one by throwing a bottle. The police arrested 21 rioters.
Thousands of men and women lay on the tracks and held up trains entering Calcutta. The police cleared the lines after three hours and then students started snatching hats and ties from people in the streets and burning them. That was how Calcutta began celebrating Chandra Bose’s birthday. Hindu and Moslem mobs clashed tonight and the police opened fire, killing two. Seven were wounded.
