New Secretory For Whangarei R.C.

Mr C. J. Bent has been appointed secretary of the Whangarei Racing Club. He succeeds Mr F. L. Gunn, who recently resigned owing to ill-health. Applications for the position were received from a wide area of New Zealand. including Canterbury and Taranaki. Mr Dent, who has been a member of the committee of the club since the last annual meeting, is well-known and popular in Whangarei and Northland sporting circles.

He is auditor of the Whangarei Rugby Union, was a delegate on the management committee for the Old Boys club for a number of years and last season managed the Whangarei Harding Shield team on its visit to Kaitaia.

In his younger days, he was a very keen player with the Old Boys and City clubs, and since his playing days has continued to take an energetic and practical interest in the code.

His father, the late Mr J. S. Dent, was honorary starter and a steward of the Whangarei Racing Club for a number of years. The new secretary was an accountant with the North Auckland Farmers’ Co-op., Ltd., for 24 years. Three years ago, he commenced business on his own account with Mr J. R. Mcllraith as a partner.
