Anglo - Indian Talks Break Down

(Rec. 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 6. Conversations by the British Government arranged with Messrs Nehru. Jinnah and Ali Khan Singh ended tonight after a conference lasting 70 minutes.

Messrs Nehru and Singh are returning to India tomorrow morning. The British Government has issued a statement saying the main difficulty has arisen over the interpretation of sub-sections 5 and 8 of paragraph 19 in the Cabinet Mission’s statement of June 16, relating to the electoral decisions of the sections into which the provinces are grouped. The statement adds:

“The Moslem League accepted the Cabinet Mission's view that decisions of the sections should be taken by a simple majority vote oi representatives.

"The Congress Party put forward a different view and asserted that the true meaning of the statement is that the provinces have the right to decide both as to grouping and as to their own constitutions.”
