Miss Hodges Wins Provincial Title
GOLF N :
(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. The Auckland provincial women’s golf champion is 22-year-old Miss Rosemary Hodges. Hc-r opponent in the final yesterday was Mrs J. S. Colegrove, the mother of a four months’ old baby. Both are members of the Auckland club. ; Miss Hodges won 4 and 3, but. as Mrs Colegrove only resumed playing a month after the birth of her daughter, her performance was full of credit. Miss Hodges had an anxious time in the semi-final with Mrs J. Cliff, of Palmerston North, who led throughout the first nine holes, but failed on the green over the second half. Miss Hodges was always favourite in the final, but her game had several blemishes. Her short chips to the green were played too timidly land there was lack of rhythm in her putting. Mrs G. W. Hollis won the Middlemore Cuo, beating Mrs Cormack; in the final at the 18th. The winner showed a splendid return to form after hoi- disastrous 94 in the qualifying round. She was the only competitor at the tournament who could match Miss Hodges for length.
