Gandhi Tours Riot Areas

(Rec. 1.0 p.m.) CALCUTTA, Nov. G. Gandhi, after a 12-hour journey in a special train and paddle steamer, arrived at the border town of Chandpur, from where he- will begin his tour of riot areas in the Noakhali district tomorrow.

It is officially stated at Patna that 100 are believed to have been killed and many injured in riots in the Agarnausa area, where troops fired on the rioters. The Governor of Bombay has authorised the formation of home guards to help police deal with communal disturbances.

The home guards will be subject tq police discipline, but will not be pair.. Reuter’s Bombay correspondent reports that police fired 41 times to disperse crowds in different parts of the city today. Cne was killed and eight injured. For the first time in weeks Calcutta police reported that the night passed off without incident.
