Boswell References Resented By Hatrick

(Special) KAWAKAWA, This Day. “This is Mr Boswell’s home, town, and I want to say here, for the first time, that Mr S. W. Smith’s reference t 0 Mr Boswell’s expensive Moscow mission is unworthy,” stated Mr H. K. Hatrick (Labour, Hobson) addressing a political meeting at Kawakawa.

“It is all right perhaps for some of 'he Tory satellites to say, but this continual harping by the victor on a defeated candidate is in extremely bad taste.”

Mr Boswell was not in Moscow to start up a trade in vodka, said Mr Hatrick.

“I suggest seriously that Moscow is one of the world’s storm centres. He is there for a definite purpose. He is m ambassador representing the whole of New Zealand. He is no longer a defeated Bay of Islands candidate but a representative o’f this Dominion abroad.

“And even if he is cQsting us £30.000 or £40.000 a year,” the speaker added, “that doesn't make Sid Smith the country’s most expensive M.P. “If he cost only twopence a year and [ had to choose between Mr Boswell and Mr Smith, then Mr Boswell would still go to Moscow!” The audience applauded solidly.
