Main Trunk Still Blocked Today

(P.A.) TE KUITI, This Day. Further slipping in the Fuketutu area will necessitate the transhipping of passengers on the Main Trunk tonight again. Breakdown trains working from the south reached a point north of Kopaki, but last night, following further rain, the Puketutu obstacle was as great as ever. The ballasting of the unstable section south of Kopaki is proceeding. Trouble on Ihe Te Kuiti-Taumaru-nui highway prevented buses crossing the flood area until daylight. Though the water is slowly subsiding, the road is cut to pieces and metallirig is proceeding today. No indication is possible when the Main Trunk railway will be open. FAIR PROGRESS Fair progress is being made in re moving the slips on the Main Trunn line .which should be clear some time tomorrow morning between 9 o'clock and neon. A message to this effect has been received by the Auckland train-run-ning authorities from Mr W. H Walmsley, assistant traffic manager of railways, of Auckland, early this afternoon. He added that further rain during j the night had impeded clearing operations, but the weather had improved this morning and the situation was much better.
