To mark the introduction on October 1 of a reduction to 5 cents an ounce in. the airmail rate within the United States and to Canada and Mexico and all United States possessions, including Army post offices, the Postmaster-Gen-eral (Mr Hannegan). today despatched America’s first flying post office, in which, during the flight from Washington to Dayton, Chicago, Pittsburgh and New York, mail clerks will sort one ton of first-day covers sent to Washington by philatelists. <•>, The post office does not contemplate the immediate adoption of the' sorting in flight plan, but is studying its feasibility. Although it was understood that overseas air mail rates would- be!reduced to 10 cents a Joz. from October l, the post office has not made a final decision and except for the countries specified above, the present high rates will remain. -
