WASHINGTON, August 8. The United States has decided to extend a credit of 55,000,000 dollars ( £13.750.000) to Japan and’Korea to enable them to purchase surplus army and navy equipment, used for transportation, road building and communications. General MacArthur requested approval of the deals to prevent disease and unrest in attaining the objectives of the Allied occupation.
