P For Poland Back Again
(Rec. 1.30 p.m. LONDON. June 26. Sir Louis Greig, chairman of the Wimbledon championship committee, referring to the omission from the programme of the initial P indicating Polish players, said: "The omission is a temporary measure pending clarification of a letter received by the Lawn Tennis'Association from Polish official sources. .
"It is now fully explained and the incident is closed by the replacement of the initial.”
Despite the official decision regarding the nationality of Tloczynski and Spychallab the withdrawal of Miss Jedrzejowska from the mixed doubles with Tloczynski will stand.
The referee (Captain A. K. Trower) explained that Miss JedrzejowsKa received instructions from the Polish Ministry concerned that as Tloczynski and Spychalla were not members of the Polish Lawn Tennis Association, she could not be allowed to play with them. BROWN, PAILS WIN The Australians, Pails and Brown, won the second round of the singles matches with the greatest ease, but two other Australians, Hopman and Harper, were defeated. The French Davis Cup player Pellizza’s powerful driving carried him through against Hopman's wiles. The Dutchman, van Swol’s, cannon-ball service was the deciding factor in his win over Harper. While Van Swol was eliminating Harper, the letter's compatriot, Pails, was returning the compliment with the Dutchman Wilkin, who was not good enough to extend the Australian. Kramer and Segura had very comfortable wins. The best match of the day was between the towering Frenchman Petra and the Yugoslav Pallada. This game was marked by aggressive, exciting and colourful play by both men, varying from ferocious aces to the gentlest dropshols. Pallada saved six match points before gefing down.
