(Rcc. 1.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 2-1
The Security Council, by seven votes to four, rejected Poland's renewed motion for immediate breaking-oil' of relations with Spain. The only affirmative votes were Poland, France, Russia and Mexico. M. Lange (Poland) moving the motion, said Poland asked for reconsideration of the facts, and wanted the question put to the vote to clarify the lengths to which the different Governments were ready to do something practi cal immediateiy. Poland supported last week's recommendation by the sub-committee because it provided some definite action. The Franco Government could not derive any comfort from the defeat of the recommendation, which occurred only because the delegates disagreed about the practical steps which should bo taken. OBJECT TO DATE Dr Evatt said the motion was substantially the same as that which Poland originally- moved and which had been the subject of a report by a sub-committee. The council, after rejecting the motion, debated a further Polish resolution that the Spanish question be kept under conlinous observation until September 1, The British, French and’ American delegates objected to tho date.
Sanor Majera (the chairman) after ?ome discussion, appointed Sir Alexander Cadogan, M. Lange and Dr Evatt a committee to work out an acceptable resolution.
