Whangarei Remits To RSA Conference
Three remits are to be submitted by the Whangarei branch of the RSA to the Dominion conference in Wellington on May 28. At the monthly meeting of the Whangarei executive. held last night, Messrs J. D. Gerard and C. Murray were appointed the delegates to attend the conference. The first remit concerns the payment of universal family benefits to war widows and returned servicemen in ! receipt of war pensions, j The association is pressing the j eligibility of those in receipt of war j pensons, or in receipt of social security benefit in respect of children of ex- ; servicemen or deceased personnel. | The second remit is directed towards the granting of assistance to rehabilitated servicemen farmers who have suffered as a result of the recent drought. The association is claiming that, to overcome hardship and loss of budgeted income through the drought conditions. interest payable to the State Advances Corporation by a returned serviceman rehabilitated on a farm should be rebated to an extent proportionate to the loss of production during the season compared with the estimated production on which the farm was valued by the land sales court. In the case of returned servicemen established on farms by private finance, the association seeks the making of a grant equal to the rebate payable had the money come through the State Advances. The third remit asks that the provision of head-stones for war graves be extended to include the graves of ex-servicemen whose death has not been caused directly by the war.
