MANGONUI RUGBY UNION
(Special) KAITAIA, This Day. Preparations for the 1946 Rugby football season in the Far North were made by the Mangonui Rugby subunion at its annual meeting on Fridaynight. Six clubs, were represented, these being Te Kao, Awanui, Kaitaia. Kiwi United, Ahipara and a new combined formation taking in Herekino. Mnnukat. and Whangape districts. From this latter district one senior and one junior team would be entered, it was reported. A feature of last season's play had been the first post-war challenge for the Harding Shield, senior Northland trophy, in which Northern Wairoa had made a successful journey to Kaitaia to defeat Mangonui, the holders, before one of the largest crowds ever seen on the Kaitaia A. and P. Ground. The Mangcnui senior competition had been won by Kaitaia. and in the junior division honours had been shared by Kiwi United and Te Kao teams. The secretary (Mr N. Wilkinson) reported l credit of more than £34, this being the best for some years despite heavy expenditure in players’ transport. MR CLARK RETIRES After having being president since 1929 Mr Clark did not seek re-election. He was warmly thanked for bis services to the game in Mangonui County. The following officers were elected: Patrons, Messrs J. T. Clark and W. Masters; president, Mr J. Cowie; vicepresidents. presidents of all affiliated clubs; selectors, senior. Mr Moses Yates, junior, Mr J. Sowter; delegate to North Auckland Rugby Union, Mr N K. Boyd; judicial committee, Messrs L. S- Morpeth. L. West and C. Latimer; management committee. Messrs V. R. Kingdon, H. H. Wilkinson, W. S. Bestic; secretary and treasurer. Mr N- Wilkinson. Indications were that six senior teams would be nominated, together with at least the same number of junior combinations.
