Jelly Broadcast Drowns Cardinal
(1 p.m.)
SYDNEY. This Day
While Cardinal Gilroy was addressing a crowd of 50.000 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, he was interrupted by a low-flying advertising plane in which the announcer broadcast through an amplifier the merits of a brand of jelly. Angry murmurs rose from the crowd as the plane burst into song, completely drowning the Cardinal's voice.
The pilot later said he was engaged to fly over an adjoining sports ground and broadcast to the crowd there.
