Hems And Pigs Have More Room
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. This Day. "A poultry farmer is supposed to allow 4 sq. ft for each fowl, and if a farmer builds a pig-sty he would not think of building one less than 16 sq. ft for each pig. "These animals which are reared for profit must be properly housed. "Yet there is no definite regulation stating the minimum flcor space a child at school should be allowed,” said the Dominion president of the New Zealand Educational Institute (Mr A. Hanna), in an addrqss to a large body ol school-teachers at the week-end. "A regulation stales that floor space should Pe approximately - 12 sq. ft. Critics of education should go into the schools and see teachers struggling to teach children herded in overcrowded classrooms under conditions that would not be allowed in industry."
