Budgie Foiled Bandit

(11 a.m.) LONDON. March 29. A talking budgerigar, it was claimed at a Bristol court, foiled an attempt at robbery. Mrs Ada Ponting, 79, gave evidence that a man entered her fiat on the pretext of inspecting a tap. He threw her into a chair and threatened to kill her unless she told where her money and jewellery were hidden. Suddenly a voice said: “What you doing? What you doing?" The man released her. "'lt was the voice of my little talking bird," she said.

The man was committed for trial
