Mystery In Court
(Rec. 11.30 a.m.) LONDON. March 29. Extraordinary precautions were taken at Bow Street Police Court to keep secret a case in which two men were summoned under the Official Secrets Act. says the Evening News. The defendants' names were not included in the displayed lists of cases. Witnesses were pledged not to discuss the case. The hearing was in camera. The Press Association says the two men are Wilfred MacCnrtney and Edward Arnold Chapman, and that the case involved the publication of a book in France. The magistrate, after a hearing lasting 3.5 hours, said in open court that he was taking the most lenient course possible. He fined the men £SO each, which both paid.
