Says Ruhr Must Remain German
(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 3. It is impossible for the Social Democrat Farty in the British. American and French zones to unite with the Commu.USt Party. Dr. Karl Schurnacher, leader of the Social Democrats in the British zone, told a meeting of 9000 Germans at Iserlohn.
He added that Germany saw enough of the one-party system under the Nazis. Communists in Germany were not free. The Social Democrats would work with them, but not at the cost of their identity. Dr. Schumacher, commenting on the French proposals for the;internationalisation of the Ruhr, declared: “Whatever happens, the Rulir must remain German.” He added a plea for the Allies to send more food to Germany to avert starvation.
