American Treatment Of German Officials
LONDON. January 4
In a message to his troops of the United States Third Army, LieutenantGeneral Lucian Truscott, commander of the eastern military district in the American zone, declared:
‘‘Thoughtless; overbearing and careless acts by American officers and men toward German officials have impeded the accomplishment of some of the occupational objectives.”
Decrying the attempt to ‘‘abuse, humiliate and offer indignity to German officials wham we were responsible for placing in General Truscott said the troops should do all within their power to strengthen and dignify the present German Government in Bavaria.
German officials should be treated with “the respect and consideration due to those occupying a difficult position which we imposed on them.”
