Two Climbers Missing In Mt. Cook Area

(Special) GREYMOUTH This Day. Two climbers who set out to climb the lower peaks of Mt. Cook on. December 23 are missing. They are Mr A. C. Lees, 37, of Canterbury and Mr W. R. Lerchenthal.

A visiting Canterbury tramper who had intended to link up with the two missing men, thinks they may be marooned at Gardner Hut because of adverse weather conditions. A climber at Weheka said he made an attempt to climb yesterday with a party, but the weather became poor and they had turned back within an hour. He said that Mr. Lees was a careful climber wß’i many years’ experience who had several times climbed Mount Cook before the war.
