Puzzled By Reports

(Rec. 11.15 a.m.) LONDON. October 31. Official circles in London arc puzzled by reports from Washington suggesting that Britain failed to carry out the joint agreement with the United States regarding the Middle East supply centre, says the diplomatic correspondent of the Press Association.

The reports stated that Britain, instead of withdrawing Government personnel, retained them in the Middle East to promote trade with the Arabs. It i? authoritatively stated in London that the United States Department of State was consulted throughout on arrangements for the Middle East supply centre. It was on the American suggestion that the i present machinery was established, London authorities also are mystified by a reference to a trade agreement. Nothing is known in London of such an agreement.
