XlO4 Hosiery Coupon Currency Extended
(Special.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The extension of the currency of the XlO4 hosiery coupon until further notice was announced by the Minister for Industries and Commerce (Hon. D. G. Sullivan), when replying to a question from Miss M. B. Howard (Govt. —Christchurch East) in the House of Representatives yesterday. He added that both the XlO4 coupon and the new X2Ol coupon would therefore be available, from today. The Minister stated that this course had been decided upon because importations of fully-fashioned hosiery had not come to hand in the quantities expected, and a considerable number of women had not been able to redeem their XlO4 coupons. Miss Howard also'asked in her question if the Minister would take up with the manufacturers the making of lisle stockings. She claimed that there had lately been on the market in Auckland lisle stockings with a very heavy seam right across the top of the toes, which made them unwearable. The Minister replied that one of the three factories manufacturing lisle stockings in the Dominion was suffering from an acute shortage of linkers, whose work was essential for the production of a smooth or linked seam at the toe. As a result, this company had had to resort to overlooking at this seam until more girls became available for training as linkers. The choice was between no lisle stockings from one of the factories or stockings with the seam referred to.
