Mr. William L. Cato
OBITUARY
A pioneer of the Honikiwi district and more recently a prominent and successful Jersey, breeder in Waipu, Mr William Leonard Cato died at his residence, Wychwood, Waipu, on Thursday, at the age of 69. Mr Cato led a varied and colourful career, being a veteran of the 7th Contingent of the Boer War, in which he won the award of Mentioned in Despatches. The decoration was awarded for the gallant rescue of a soldier whose horse had been shot away while a position was being evacuated.
On his return, he took up a farm in the Honikiwi district in the King Country, which was just being opened at that time. In 1921 he moved to Kamo and two years later bought Wychwood, where he bred Jersey cattle until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, whom he married in 1907, and two sons and .three daughters, Mrs Runciman and Mrs Ryan, of Waipu, Mrs Dobbie, of Waiuku. Mr W. Cato, of Waipu, and Mr H. M. Cato.
The funeral took place at Waipu this afternoon.
