Peace Celebrations

(Special.) AUCKLAND, This Day. A moi ion by Mr W. J. Bowyer that the board would co-onerate in peace celecrations subject to hotels being closed on the day chosen for this purpose, was defeased at a meeting of the Education Board. The matter arose during consideration of an invitation from the City Council for two board representatives to attend a conference on September 18 to make preparations for peace celebrations. TTie council stated that it was proposed to hold a parade with sporting events and a children’s party in the Domain. An amendment to Mr Bowyer’s motion was carried recommending the council to ensure that every step be taken to prevent the abuse of alcohol during the celebrations. It was considered that children should parade only if teachers volunteered to take charge of them.
