Asked To Limit Transport Requirements
(Special) AUCKLAND. This Day Transpert arrangements made by the Army Department, Red Cross Transport Corps, and the Commercial Travellers’ Club lor convenience of returning service personnel from Britain and the Middle East recently have been taxed to the limit. On Monday last the entire -organisation reached breaking-point, and close examination revealed that next-of-kin, in understandable eagerness to meet their turning menfolk, had overlooked the strain thrown on transport, organisers. The transport of four families of eight persons, two of nine, one of 11. and one of 14 members required the use of 17 vehicles where eight had been allocated. Next-of-kin are asked to confine requests for transport to one car for each returning serviceman. and to arrange their own numbers accordingly. This arrangement would allow a party of four or five for each man. and can be borne by the present organisation. Any greater demand for transport will result in serious embarrassment fo some people and unnecessary anxiety for the organisers. {f
