Bandits In Italy
LONDON, Sept. 3. There have been reports from Italy in the past, month of violence by gangs armed with weapons which should have been handed over to the Allied authorities. In Sicily a train was machinegunned and the passengers robbed. Near Naples a gang attacked a goods train and made off with a lot of food. On the highway between Florence and Eologna another gang has been robbing travellers. While some of this is just plain banditry, trouble among political factions may break out in Northern Italy when the Allies leave, says a correspondent. In Turin and other areas of Piedmont the Italians have discovered secret stores of arms and ammunition.
