Rural Homing Need

(Special.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The Auckland District Council of Primary Production decided yesterday to draw the attention of the national council to the continuing need of additional rural housing of a permanent nature for married farm workers. It was decided to emphasise the necessity for urgent representations being made to the Government for the introduction of a housing scheme that would function in a reasonable manner. It was agreed that a letter should be sent to the council pointing out that the emergency rural housing scheme put into operation last year had not been satisfactory, in that permanent type houses applied for and approved as long ago as last November had not vet been erected. One case in the district was cited where the applicant paid the full amount involved, £750, to the State Advances Corporation last February but so far no materials had been delivered on the job. The council considered that rural housing should take priority over other building construction, in so far as the supply of materials was concerned, particularly as the accommodation was required for returned soldiers. It was decided to confer with the Building and Timber .Controllers and county building inspectors with a view to formulating a rural housing scheme.
