Onerahi Fish Hatchery

It is not generally known that the Whangarei Acclimatisation Society has an up-to-date fish hatchery at Onerahi, and that large quantities of trout are bred for distribution in streams throughout a wide area. This year, something like 1,000.000 ova were “set.” The result is now to be seen in many thousands of small fish, about an inch in length. The youngsters are remarkably active, and spectators are fascinated by them. In order that the public may have an opportunity of inspecting the hatchery, the Onerahi Progressive Society has secured permission from the Whangarei Acclimatisation Society to invite visitors tomorrow afternoon. This should prove a popular innovation.
