N.Z. Representation In Occupation Forces
(Special) WELLINGTON, This Day New Zealand will be adequately represented in the Allied occupation forces in Japan and Asia, according to current opinion in high Govern-e ment quarters. Although precise information is not yet available as to the actual composition of the forces, it is known that the Royal New Zealand Navy and Royal New Zealand Air Force will be among the occupation forces. The question of the representation of the Army is at present under consideration and a decision can be expected shortly. Since the announcement of the composition of the Australian occupation forces, lobby circles have been humming with speculation, but apart from the fact that the Navy and Air Force will be among the Dominion’s occupation forces, nothing definite has yet been decided, except that H.M.N.Z.S. Gambia will go, to Tokio. An early statement can be expected from the Prime Minister (Hon. P. Fraser). (Yesterday it was reported that the Achilles would represent the New Zealand Navy, but it is not officially confirmed that the ship will be the Gambia).
There is also every possibility that New Zealand will be represented when the British reoccupy the great naval base of Singapore, which will take place shortly. Other occupation forces will probably be required for other former British possessions, such as Hongkong. It seems doubtful however, whether New Zealand will follow Australia's example of pressing for large representation in the •occupation forces.
