Fraser’s Congratulations To Attlee On Success

(Rec. 11.20 am.) LONDON, August 23. The New Zealand Prime Minister (Hon. P. Fraser) in a letter of congratulation to Mr. Attlee, said he hoped the Labour Government’s term of office would bring many benefits and blessings to the people of the United Kingdom, who deserve the best that any Government can bestow, for their unyielding and heroic stand against Nazi terror. “They set a noble example to the world. They were steadfast, true and unafraid, and in peace, full of hope and confidence for the future. “Because of the similarity in outlook of the British and New Zealand Governments in social and economic matters, I feel we can confidently expect such a measure of mutual understanding, collaboration and helpfulness as is bound lo prove most beneficial to the people of Britain and New Zealand." Mr. Attlee, replying. ,said: “The unflinching stand taken by New Zealand in the war. even in the darkest days, the high courage and magnificent record c:f your armed forces, has drawn us even closer than before. I believe we British, who base our democratic institutions on freedom, social justice, and the value of every individual, have a great responsibility and have a great opportunity in these days. lam sure cur people will not be found wanting.”
