Maori Injured When jigger Strikes Train

A Maori had a miraculous escape from serious injury when the railway jigger upon which he was riding south last night collided with a north-bound passenger train, between Waikiekie and Waiotira. He was Jack Whitihira, 21. ganger, of Waiotira, who was admitted to the Whangarei Hospital late last night, suffering from lacerations to his left ankle, shock and slight abdominal injuries. His condition is reported to be satisfactory. The accident occurred when the jigger struck the north-bound passenger train from Auckland due to arrive at Whangarei at 10.50 n.rn. After the accident, Whitihira was taken to Whangarei by the train and admitted immediately after its arrival to.hospital.
