A WORD TO THE UNTHINKING
THERE are few people in an average community who would deliberately and of set purpose be unkind or discourteous to others who have been injured in the defence of their country, or who are the victims of crippling disease. It would seem, however, that thoughtlessness may be responsible for people, including young people, who are in possession of all their limbs and faculties, overlooking an obligation to make easier the lives of men who have returned to the Dominion minus limbs, which, in some cases, have been replaced artificially. It has been brought to our notice that on more than one occasion an amputee has been obliged to stand in a Whangarei bus while young and normally-equipped people have retained seats which should have been offered to those with war infirmities. This, we are sure, has not been done intentionally by holders of seats, but, in view
of the fact that more amputees will be in evidence, a word in season will doubtless produce acceptable fruit.
