Yugoslav.—The resignation cf Milan Grot from the vice-Premiership of Marsha: Tito’s People’s Front has created the first crisis in the post war Yugoslav Cabinet, says the Associated Press. Grol, leader of the Democratic Party, is believed to have resigned because of disagreement on election laws.
Bui gars.—The Moscow radio says it is reported from Bucharest that General Gineraru has been sentenced to hard labour for life as a war criminal. Other war criminals in eight groups have been sentenced up to 20 years’ hard labour. Italy.—ltaly, up to early this year, has received from the Allies more than 1.250,000 tons of food. Of this nearly SCO,COO tons came from the United Kingdom and about 17,000 tons from Canada. The United States has sent more than 600,000 lons. Radio.—The headquarters of the Southeast. Asia Command has ordered the Japanese Southern Army to establish a radio station at Saigon, Indo-China, for communication with Rangoon, Burma, by English transmissions. Dead.—The Japanese Domei Agency reports the ’death of General Hsiao ChuiiSuan, former War Minister in the Nanking puppet Government. The cause of death was not disclosed. Melbourne Cup.—This-year’s Melbourne Cup will be a victory cup of £IO,OOO, an increase of £2500 on last year. If the Commonwealth Government's permission is obtained, the race will be decided on the traditional Tuesday, the first in November. Gap.—A Sydney message says 11,000 tons of ooison gas bombs, shells and mines are to be dumoed at sea. The gas was stored, near Albury. Army ordnance-officers stud the gas was rushed to Australia from England in the early days of the Pacific< war, when it was thought the Japanese would resort to jgas warfare.
