Dismissal Of Boys
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. In a notice of question to the actingMinister for Labour, Mr. W. Sullivan (Opposiion—Bay of Plenty), asked if steps would be taken to prevent the dismissal of boys who were being trained in useful trades. Mr. Sullivan said that owing, to the war cetrain trades had insufficient journeymen to provide the full ratio of journeymen to apprentices required by awards, and the Labour Department recently had been instructing employers so placed that they must dismiss apprentices or be prosecuted. Employers would willingly engage additional tradesmen if they could' get them, added Mr. Sullivan, and the employment of these apprentices was contributing toward meeting the deficiency of skilled tradesmen
