AUSSIES TELL DUKE THEY HAVE THE TOOLS

(Rec. 1.15 p.m.J BRISBANE, This Day Australian battle troops—many of them just back from Mivo River front on Bougainville—assured the Governor-General (the Duke of Gloucester) that they were satisfied with their equipment. The Duke raised the question of equipment when he addressed the men called around him. He said: “I would like to ask you what you think of our position regarding equipment. There has been much talk on the subject, and I am greatly interested in the matter. I would like to ask you, are you properly equipped or not?” There was an immediate affirmative response from many of the men nearest the Duke. They said that mail delays were their greatest anxiety. The Duke replied: ‘‘l shall tell the people of Australia that you are satisfied with your equipment and I shall suggest that they worry no more on the subject.”
