Increased Output Of Cement From Portland

Cement supplies from Portland which have been shipped to Auckland have resulted in an improvement in the building situation. Cement is not yet available, however, for certain types of work which are classed as non-essential. Included in this category are the laying of concrete paths, the building of walls and similar work. The Herekino has discharged two cargoes of cement at Auckland during the week, and she was due to return to the city with a further load today. A cargo of 1200 tons of West Coast coal, which was delivered at Portland toward the end of last month, has enabled the cement, works to increase its output, and a further 1000 tons of coal are expected within the next few days. No severe shortage of cement is anticipated in the pear future.
