Partisan May Be New Italian Premier
LONDON. June 14. The six major Italian parties have invited Ferruccio Parri to oecome the new Prime Minister, says the British United Press correspondent in Rome. If he accepts the parties will submit his name to Prince Umberto, Lieutenant-Governor of the Realm, as their agreed choice. Signor Parri, a former journalist, is a member of the Action Party and was de-puty-commander cf the partisan army in Northern Italy. Prince Umberto consulted political leaders’ yesterday about the formation of a new" Government, said an earlier message. The Socialist, leader Pietro Nonnl warned the Prince that civil war could bo avoided only if he pledged himself to stand by the result of the popular vote regarding the future form of the State. Ncnni told the Prince that he intended to initiate an all-out republican campaign. “The Prince did not seem surprised.’ Signor Nenni told newspapermen later. He ttaid that he. too, desired to avoid civil war, and added: “I 'told the Prince what I have always said publicly, namely, that the only solution of Italy’s problems is the proclamation of a republic.”
