Germans Feting Returning Soldiers

(Rec. 10 a.m') LONDON. June 13. German civilians are feting 'like conquering heroes thousands of released German soldiers now streaming home, reports the British United Press Cologne correspondent. They rush out onto the pavements, cheer, wave and throw flowers as bedraggled, but still arrogant, soldiers drive past. The situation is particularly irksome to British troops who see German prisoners returning in British and American lorries whereas thousands of released Allied prisoners had to beg lifU to get bad!. The Mayor of Weimar asked the Allied authorities for permission to organise a municipal welcome home to German soldiers. The request was curtly refused. Released prisoners are allowed a month in which to find homes for their families. readjust themselves, and draw ration-cards and civilian clothes. Allied authorities then are directing them to vital farm work and to clearing war damage. Bolder Werewolves Werewolves are becoming bolder throughout Germany, says Reuter's correspondent at Tegernsee (Bavaria). “Heil Hitler!’’ and such typewritten slogans as: “Young Nazis Awake!” “Long live Greater Germany!” are appearing on walls and buildings. Traffic in small-arms is reported among civilians. A train carrying liberated Russian slaveworkers was fired at and one Russian wounded.
