Whangarei Rugby Representative Matches

The first Rugby team to visit Whnngarei this season will be the King's College XV which will be playing the High School first XV at Runby Park at one o’clock on Saturday. King’s College is a leading secondary school team in the Auckland Rugby competitions, while high school is well up in the Whangarei open junior grade competitions. With two such sides in action there should he some bright football on Saturday especially so if the weather remains fine, as the ground is now in good playing order. The junior fixture, School against Old Ec,vs. which was set down for Saturday has been postponed till a later date on account of the King’s College visit. Senior Reps At Dargaville Gn July 14, Whangarei senior representatives will be travelling to Dargaville to play the Wairoa representatives and it is probable that a fourth grade representative team will also be making the trip to play a curtain-raiser at Dargaville with the local fourth;grade side. The Northern Wairoa third-grade representatives (the holder of the Powell Shield, the premier Rugby trophy for this grade in Northland) may be playing at Whangarei that day against the local third grade representatives. Macri-Pakcha Match The annual Maori-Pakeha match in Whangarei is to be re-introduced. This match, for which a trophy was donated seme years ago, was a draw card in prewar years and its reinstatement will be welcomed by fans. Selectors for the Maori team will be Messrs W. Shortland, W. Rika and H. Williams, all stalwarts of football in the Whangarei district. The Whangarei Maori reps, intend to play an Auckland Maori team during the season, the game to take place either at Auckland or Whangarei. With so many Maori teams in the Whangarei competitions this year, the .Maori XV should be a strong combination. Northern Wairoa is- challenging for the Harding and Brake shields.
