Royal Naval Air Arm Strikes Off Norway
(Bee. 12 30 p.m.) LONDON. May 4. During an offensive .sweep by the British Home Fleet off Northern Norway on Friday night, naval aircraft carried out a successful strike against enemy shipping at Kilbotn, near Narvik, states an Admiralty communique. A strong force of Wildcats and Avengers, operating from the escort- carriers Searcher, Queen and Trumpeter, attacked a German U-boat, and a depot-ship alongside which the U-boat was lying. A number of hits with bombs were observed on the depot-ship, which blew up and sank. The U-boat also was hit and probably sank. Ar enemy tanker in the same vicinity also was sunk and an anti-aircraft ship damaged. We lost two aircraft.
