Otamatea County Council Meets

(Special) PAPAROA. This Day. At the monthly meeting of the Otamatea County Council, it was reported that an order has been placed with Gough, Gough and Hamer Ltd., for a No. 212 iandeir. caterpillar grader at £2210. Tne council decided also to purchase a 2-cy!inder tyre pump at £SO/10/-. It was resolved not to join Ihe Wademata Harbour Bridge Association. The council unanimously agreed to maintain the light on the Coates Memorial at. Brynderwyn. The donor will pay for the installation. The Maungaturoto Dairy Company wrote asking that the price of the Wairau sections under negotiation be reduced to £4O each. It was resolved to adhere to the price quoted—£4s. Messrs. P. Stratfoi'd and Gordon Sterling wrote asking that improvements be carried out to the Ararua Road before the winter, and offering to meet members of the council if they could visit the district. Resolved to advise them that repairs would be carried out as soon as possible. It was resolved to ask the Government for 'a grant for the metalling of Dunn's Road. The Valuation Department wrote advising that the three-year appointment, of county assessor had expired, and asking for the name of the new assessor. Re--solved to nominate Mr. J. Mcßae. The Whakatane County Council’s proposal that, representatives on the Counties' Association should be elected by the ward system was supported. ’A deputation of settlers from Whakapirau riding, led by Mr. Morris, asked that the Huia and Experimental Farm roads be reconditioned for traffic as they were becoming dangerous for the school bus. and were also used largely for carting of lime from the works in that locality. Mr. A. Flower also attended from tlie Maungaturoto High School Committee in support of the application. Mr. Bellingham, representing the lime works, expressed his firm’s willingness to be levied on for the use of the road for heavy cartage. The council received the deputation sympathetically and agreed to have an estimate of the cost prepared.
